client_review_rating-526827958.jpgThere’s no question that online customer reviews are important when you’re selling a product or service. We as consumers use the internet to do research before we buy a product or commit to a service, so what reviewers say online matters to us and influences our purchasing behaviors significantly.

The digital world has made this type of information readily available, 24/7, and people are relying less on family and friends for reviews and more on easy-to-access online customer review sites.

So how can you increase your customer reviews online that impact your overall search engine results and placement, especially in local listings?

We’ll get to that, but first, let’s talk about actually being visible on customer review sites.

Create a Presence on Customer Review Sites

Research has shown that customer reviews often increase the click-through rate to your website and are used to reinforce your geographic listing, which is why they often increase your local search placement.

Your presence on customer review sites is a major factor that search algorithms take into account when placing you in the search engine results pages and allows these search engines to determine your search relevance in the local market. Therefore, you want to make sure you are creating a physical presence on some of the web’s most relevant customer review sites. Some of these sites include:

There are a few more, but these 6 are the main ones you should focus on first. If you’re not quite sure how to get set up on these customer review sites, check with your marketing agency or coordinator. If you need a little extra help, shoot us an email!

Once you’ve finished completing your profiles, you need to strategize how you’re going to increase your online presence with customer reviews. Why would someone want to leave a review on your company through one of these sites? Do they even know how to go about do it?

Next, we’ll discuss a few ideas on how you can increase your online customer reviews.

Increase Customer Reviews Online

  1. Ask for The Review:

Sometimes a dedicated and loyal customer is willing to give you a positive review if you just ask them. It might not even have crossed their mind to do so.

Ask for reviews via email, through your website with a call-to-action button, through social media, or even by calling them up directly. You’ll be surprised at how many happy clients are willing to leave some nice thoughts on your company profile. But what if the client doesn’t know how to leave the review? This is where the next idea comes in.

  1. Educate Them on How to Leave a Review:

If your client would like to leave a review on your company profile but just doesn’t know how, you can simply write out or talk them through the few simple steps it takes to leave an online review. Create a quick tutorial to share with all of your clients whom you have asked to review your company.

  1. Add a Reminder in Your Orders:

When you send out orders to your customers, leave an instruction sheet in the order on how to leave an online review on a few different customer review sites that are most important to you. This can be Google, Yelp, Foursquare, or any other review site that is relevant to your business.

For instance, if you’re a lawyer, having a customer leave a review on Avvo.com may be most beneficial to you. If you’re a handyman, Angie’s List might be the best option.

  1. Offer an Incentive:

This should be a last resort option. Most customers will leave an online review without an incentive but some need a little nudge. This can be as simple as a $5 gift card to Starbucks or a 5% discount on their next purchase.

  1. Respond to Negative Reviews:

When you do get an online review and it happens to be negative, respond to the review in an attempt to solve the reviewer’s problem. This shows readers that you are engaged, listening and care about your customer’s happiness. This will ultimately encourage more feedback and turn your negative review into a positive situation.

  1. Include a Link in Your Email Signature:

Determine what review site is most important to your business (highly consider Google+ because it will help to improve your local SEO) and provide a link to that site with a quick call-to-action at the bottom of your email signature underneath your company logo encouraging the recipient to leave an online review. You’d be surprised how many people will actually take action on this!

Online reviews are not only good for a business’s SEO and reputation, but it’s also good for the customer. We hope this guide was helpful in determining ways to increase customer reviews online. Now get started!
