Interface-184754470.jpgAs new social media networks emerge, it can be tempting for a business to immediately jump on the bandwagon and create an account.

While it may appear to make sense, being on the newest and trendiest networking site in order to remain relevant, it might not be the right move for your business.

Here are a few things to consider before creating a new social media account to see if it’s the right thing for you:

Things to consider before creating a new social media account

1. Is your buyer persona using this new social media network?

Different social media platforms attract different types of people. It’s important that your buyer persona is likely to be active on the new platform you’re considering entering.

If they’re not using it, then you probably shouldn’t either. It wouldn’t benefit you to utilize a platform where your desired audience isn’t.

2. Are you able to dedicate the necessary time to creating and maintaining this account?

It’s important that social media posts are of high quality and quality can take time.

The content of a post is what attracts viewers and bring leads in. It’s key to not let quality fall by the wayside, which could happen if you commit yourself to too many social media platforms. You don’t want to sacrifice the quality of your social media presence as a whole simply to be on as many platforms as possible.

Equally as integral as quality, consistency is also necessary to a successful social account. Posts need to be made regularly; inactive accounts won’t help business. It may take time to establish yourself and create a following on a new social media site. You need to be sure that you can fully commit to being active on a new account prior to creating it.

3. Would a new account detract from the other social media networks your business is currently using?

Before creating an account on a new social media network, be sure that your time would be better spent creating new content for this platform, rather than working on a network that’s already proven successful for your business.

If you’re trying to reach the same audience (with the same information) on your new network, it likely won’t fill any new needs your consumers may have.

4. Do you have the budget to help allow this platform to grow and help your business?

While businesses don’t necessarily need to invest funds to be on social media networks, organic reach is declining across social media.

Because of this decline, it’s often valuable for a business to financially invest in social media advertising. Therefore, if you’re going to invest in a new social media platform, you should be sure that it fits into your marketing budget. The account should have a likelihood of being profitable.

5. Do you have a goal for this account?

Set goals.

Having a set objective and an idea of what you’re hoping to achieve with a new social account will help to measure the success of it. This measure will allow you to see if the new platform is right for your business.

Social accounts should bring value to your business. If you plan to invest both your time and money into a new social media network, then you’ll want to see some return.
